What Is A Mastopexy

If you have recently spoken with a plastic surgeon in regard to surgery on your breast, more than likely they mentioned two procedures to you. One being breast augmentation and the other one being mastopexy. Mastopexy was probably the recommended course of action if you are looking to change the shape or perkiness of your breasts without changing their size. This term refers to a series of surgical procedures instead of being limited to just one. A mastopexy can be done alongside a breast augmentation or it can be done without it if you are not looking for implants.

A mastopexy is a breast lift. This involves a surgical procedure that can change the shape of your breast slightly and raise it in height. This will allow you a more even cleavage and give you balanced lines without the need for implants. In fact, this can also give the appearance of your breast being larger then they are. When it comes to this procedure, there are two different options for you to choose from: a full mastopexy and a partial mastopexy.

The full mastopexy involves incisions along the crease under your breast, around the areola, and at the base of your breast. This technique is widely used today because it gives a great shape and position of the breast against the chest wall. During the procedure, excess skin is removed and the breast is elevated along with the size of the areola being reduced. This gives the best quality of change to the breast. This procedure leaves you with the most amount of scarring yet the scars are hidden by their placement on the breast and fade quickly.

A partial mastopexy involves fewer incisions, which will give you less scarring. One of the most popular partial procedures is known as the Benelli lift it is also known as a concentric mastopexy or the donut lift. During this procedure, a ring of skin is removed from around the areola. There is a variation on this procedure that also removes more skin from above the areola. This technique is used to raise the areola and nipple on the chest wall. Another form of a partial mastopexy is known as the lollipop lift. An incision is made around the nipple and areola as well as going down vertically to the crease under the breast. They also pair the donut lift with the removal of excess skin under the breast in some cases.

Whether you decide to do this as a stand-alone procedure or partnered with breast augmentation, it is a simple non-complicated procedure. It involves very little incisions and leaves very little noticeable scarring. Be sure to ask as many questions of your doctor as you like before going through with the surgery.
